A Dundee musician is hoping to track down the descendants of a Lochee airman after finding a 95-year-old photo hidden in a shaving kit.
Alan Davidson, who performs as The Pianoman, shared the photograph on social media sites including Old Dundee’s Facebook page.
He wrote: “I acquired a very old soldier’s grooming kit years ago and am having a sell out. Upon looking in a hidden pocket there was a certificate and a photo.
“I have no idea if the photo is connected to the soldier but this man was from Lochee.
“I would of course like to return the stuff to his surviving family so if anyone can help trace this please do so.”Can you solve the mystery? Phone 01382 575130 or email news@thecourier.co.ukThe photograph shows RAF personnel outside a hut dubbed “The Airman’s Nest”.
A certificate Alan found alongside the photo suggests it belonged to a man called David Sidney Martin, who was born in 1901 and lived in Balgay Street in Lochee.
Dating from 1920, the certificate reveals David Martin served in South Africa with the RAF and had the service number 298536.
Another Facebook user, David Davidson, has used photographic software to create a “cleaned up” version of the photograph to make it easier to see the faces of the RAF personnel.
