The games industry’s potential stars of the future have been gathering to take part in a marathon showcase of their computer design talents.
Eighteen teams of four joined the beginning of Gamejam, a 48-hour competition at Dundee and Angus College’s Gardyne Campus to design new concepts for a video game.
As well as teams of students from all three campuses, fifth and sixth year pupils from schools across the city were also involved.
Lecturer Fiona Muhsin, who organised the Gamejam said: “Dundee has a reputation for being at the heart of the international games industry and the response we have had to this competition bears out the interest that exists for games design.
“Our HND interactive media students created a website last December describing the Gamejam and inviting participants to register.
“The response has been phenomenal.”
Fiona successfully organised sponsorship for the event in the shape of city-based Yoyo Games, who are donating £2,000 of software as prizes, plus another £2,000 from Creative City Challenge Reloaded, an EU project aimed at sharing innovation.
Will Hazle of Terrier Studios and Sam Cummings of Ramen Soft will act as judges.
The event kicked off at 8.15am, when those taking part were welcomed to the college by depute principal Grant Ritchie.
They then set about creating storyboards and illustrations to be converted into software images for their games design.
The winners will be announced at 6pm today.
