The mother of student Samantha (Sammy) Thorpe, who was found dead in her Dundee accommodation last week, has told of her heartbreak and pain over her loss.
Jane Thorpe has thanked all Sammy’s friends who had gone on social media to express their condolences since the Abertay student’s body was discovered in the Opal student accommodation on Thursday.
On her Facebook page, Ms Thorpe described how much she and her family were missing her “angel” and said she would inform people when her funeral would take place.
She said: “This is Sammy Jo’s mum. All of you will know my sadly missed daughter as Sammy. I wish to thank everyone who has sent messages to both my daughter’s Facebook and mine.
“It’s with the deepest sadness and pain that I am posting this message.”
Ms Thorpe said she wanted to tell people that her daughter passed away late Wednesday evening or in the small hours of Thursday, the exact time is not known, and added that all Sammy’s friends and family would be welcome at the funeral.
She added: “A young life cut so short & such a fab loving daughter to lose and a sister to a big bruv & a sister not much diff in age & 2 small sisters, which she loved all 2 bits.
“All our hearts are breaking so badly just now and there is just no words. Kind regards and a heart filled with so much pain. RIP my daughter my angel xxxxxxx. Never ever will be forgotten.”
Police have confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 21-year-old’s death.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard on Friday that a man admitted defying a court ban by repeatedly texting Samantha just days before her body was found.
Michael Gracie, 51, of Station Road, Cupar, admitted breaching the bail order banning him from contacting or seeing her, or entering Dundee.
Appearing from custody, Gracie pleaded guilty to encouraging her to come to his home by taxi, then driving her back to Dundee, between March 21 and 25.
Gracie had previously been freed on bail after denying assaulting Samantha by punching her on the head to her injury at his home address on December 29.
Gracie fought back tears as the circumstances of Samantha’s death were outlined in court.
Defence solicitor Jacqueline Meisel told the court: “The young woman mentioned in the charge was sadly found deceased in her student accommodation.”
Sheriff McFarlane deferred sentence on Gracie for the bail breach until April 14 and removed the condition that he stay out of Dundee, but said he must not contact any of Samantha’s immediate family.
The assault trial is due to take place in Dundee on June 17.
