An unwitting Dundonian could be in line to inherit a £200,000 fortune after the death of a Mallaig grocer.
William Kirk died in September at the age of 74.
Although a popular figure in Mallaig where he ran the village grocers for more than 30 years he had no relatives in the area.
Now his friends are desperately trying to trace an heir for Mr Kirk before his estate worth around £200,000 and a large house is passed to the Crown.
Fort William law firm Macphee and Partners are now offering a three-figure reward to anyone who can help them trace an heir who they believe may be found in Dundee.
They discovered that Mr Kirk’s grandparents, John and Margaret Kirk, nee Heffren, lived at 28 Temple Lane in the city in 1913.
Later records show they moved to the Hawkhill area at 4 Isles Lane in 1933.
Their son, and Mr Kirk’s father, William Watson Kirk, was born in Dundee but died in Shrewsbury in 1983.
Mairi Macdonald from Macphee and Partners said, however, she believes Mr Kirk may have relatives living in Dundee.
