Councillor Fraser Macpherson has accused Dundee City Council of holding a “wholly inadequate and complacent attitude” towards tackling parking problems in the west end.
Mr Macpherson has called for a further consultation with residents over the area’s parking problems and said he was “unimpressed” with the council’s response.
Residents had previously rejected plans for a residents’ parking scheme after it emerged they would be charged £80 a year 16 times more than people living in Menzieshill pay for their permits.
Mr Macpherson said it is now time to reconsider introducing a parking permit scheme.
He said: “Since the failed consultation now some years ago, it is obvious from the level of complaints from residents that the parking situation is getting worse not better and that local people find it increasingly difficult to get parked near their homes.”
However, city development convener Mike Galloway has told Mr Macpherson there are no plans to reconsider a west end parking scheme.
He said: “I have consulted with my convener on this issue and our position is that this issue was fully tested through a formal public consultation on a residents’ parking scheme for the area, but this was firmly rejected by local residents.
“Our resources have therefore moved on to other priority areas.”
