Dundee’s comic character heritage is being celebrated with a new statue of Oor Wullie in the city centre.
A statue immortalising the famous spiky-haired mischief-maker was unveiled today to mark the 80th anniversary of his first appearance in The Sunday Post.
Wullie has been cast in a 4ft-tall bronze sculpture and now sits proudly outside the McManus Galleries.
Visitors can see him aiming his pea shooter at a nearby statue of Robert Burns.

Beside him is his trusty bucket and behind him on the wall are bronze replicas of his trusty satchel containing his catapult and pet mouse Jeemy.
It’s hoped the sculpture will prove every bit as popular as the existing models of DC Thomson characters Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx near the City Square.

They have become a popular stop-off for visitors and, with Oor Wullie now in place just a short walk away, retailers in Reform Street will be hoping to see a much-needed boost.
