Controversial politician Tommy Sheridan attracted hundreds of people to Dundee’s City Square today to call for a second referendum. Crowds waving flags braved increasingly cold weather to attend the rally organised by Yes Dundee, along with Mr Sheridan’s Hope Over Fear campaign. Taking to the stage, Mr Sheridan said Scotland was “lied to, duped and bullied” to secure a No vote last September. He said if a second referendum was held now the result would be different. Mr Sheridan’s invitation divided the Yes camp with planned SNP speakers pulling out rather than share a platform with the convicted perjurer. The event also saw live performances, including dancers, singers and bands. A planned march through the streets and into City Square ahead of the rally had to be changed after police intercepted walkers in Reform Street. The march element of the “fun day” programme was refused, with Dundee City Council saying only six days’ notice was given when a month is required. The march instead took place inside the City Square before this afternoon’s rally. For full coverage of the rally, see Monday’s Courier.
