Dundee could soon be home to one of Scotland’s first drive-through Starbucks as part of a new development that could bring 80 jobs to the city.
The US coffee chain is poised to take on one of three new units at derelict land in Dunsinane Industrial Estate.
Bosses have agreed on the lease for one of the units.
The first drive-through Starbucks north of the border is at Linwood in Renfrewshire, with a second in Edinburgh.
Another is expected to open in Dunfermline later this year.
Pizza chain Domino’s, which already has outlets in City Quay and Broughty Ferry, has also committed to taking on a lease at the Dunsinane site.
If plans get the green light, the two franchises are together expected to create around 80 jobs.
Joup Property Ltd, which submitted the application, is in talks with businesses over a third unit at the site of the former Valentines factory, which closed in 1994.
Starbucks bosses are believed to be hoping to cash in on business from passing motorists on the Kingsway from where the outlet will be clearly visible.
The coffee corporation had previously considered other sites in the city, including the Stack Leisure Park and the centre of Lochee, but ultimately ruled them out.
Instead, the firm has decided that the location at Dunsinane Industrial Estate meets its “strict selection criteria” due to the high volume of passing traffic and ease of access.
