Council standing up against Jolly’s Hotel outdoor seating plans

JD Wetherspoon’s plans to turn the courtyard of Jolly’s Hotel in Broughty Ferry into an outdoor seating area are being opposed by the city council.
The company’s bid to vary the terms of the licence for the premises in Gray Street will be considered by the licensing board next week.
Among the changes wanted are that the courtyard off Gray Street should have an outdoor seating area and that the premises will stay open until 1am.
City council officials have objected, pointing out that the planning application granted on appeal imposed a condition that the courtyard will be mainly for access and parking for the hotel development and shall be free of obstructions.
The courtyard should not be used as part of the public house, the operating hours of which will be from 11am to midnight.
Another change is that Wetherspoon want to serve breakfasts to non-residents from 7am, and that the Jolly’s Hotel name will be replaced as the postal address by Wetherspoon.
The company is spending £1 million on refurbishing and reopening of Jolly’s after buying it late last year for around £950,000.
The popular pub closed more than two years ago.
