A disused city centre pub is at the heart of a proposed residential development.
Sinatra’s on King Street closed three years ago and plans have been drawn up to convert it and surrounding properties into a mix of flats, maisonettes and townhouses.
The proposals by Lee Chadwick of King Street Ltd affect a row of three-storey buildings at 5-11 King Street and 28-32 Cowgate, including a former hairdresser’s and vacant offices.
Architects Archid said: “The applicant has a good track record in providing a range of affordable, high quality student properties, flats and apartments for rent in Dundee.
“This development under a new company name will contain some properties for sale and some for the rental market.
“The intention is to repair the external fabric of this important category B listed building and sensitively convert it along existing structural lines and preserve historic features where they still exist.”
They said the roof of Sinatra’s was in “desperate need” of repair work.
“This application reflects the new owner’s plans to invest significantly in the building and convert it for residential use.
“They understand the responsibilities that go with the conversion of a listed building such as this and intend to carry out roof repairs in traditional materials of lead, cast iron and slate.”
The proposed conversion would comprise a range of properties from a studio flat to a seven-bedroom townhouse, plus a small commercial unit suitable for shop or office use.
“The applicant will hope to obtain house in multiple occupation use for the larger houses and use them for student rental but going forward, the mix of sizes and uses will hopefully contribute to a vibrant city centre with accommodation suited to single people and large families.
“Given the ongoing shift of pubs and shops to the west and the future potential for shifting to the south towards the waterfront, it will be important to find good use for the buildings left vacant in the process.”
