Dundee City Council will take action on abandoned wheelie bins in Morgan Street after a frustrated resident contacted The Courier.
Frederick Simeons, 36, said he is annoyed that his efforts to improve the area are being brought down by bins left in the street and claims those just outside his door have not moved for seven years.
Mr Simeons, a research scientist at Dundee University, moved into a flat in a renovated church on the corner of Park Avenue seven years ago.
He said it is ridiculous his attempts to improve his property, which is in a listed building, are being hampered by unsightly abandoned bins.
Just yards from his door, outside nearby 2 Morgan Street, a property which is not lived in, is a row of 10 bins unused and untouched for at least seven years.
Mr Simeons said the neighbouring property, 4 Morgan Street, is served by a bin recess area out the back of the property so there is no one except passers-by using the bins outside his door.
He said: “The bins have been there ever since I moved in and it is like a constant war of attrition. No one uses them yet they never move except for when the council comes to empty them.
“I am trying to bring up the standard of my building but feel let down by the rest of the area.”
However, Mr Simeons said it is not just the abandoned bins that bother him further up the street bins used by residents are left out all week.
He said: “I am probably the only one who ever complains about anything around here.
“I have been told ever since I moved here this is an up-and-coming area but I have not seen it yet. There is no community spirit.”
Residents have the responsibility of taking in their own bins, but the council confirmed it was taking action on both issues.
A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “Arrangements are being made to remove any surplus bins in Morgan Street.
“Residents of adjacent properties will also be reminded of their responsibilities in relation to kerbside bin collection.”
