A violent Dundee drug addict was jailed for 10 months after being found carrying a claw hammer.
Jason Simpson, of Bonnethill Court, claimed there was nothing sinister about his possession of the hammer in Dundee’s South Road on June 30 last year, as he had simply used it to fix a family member’s satellite dish.
But Sheriff Alistair Carmichael said his previous record, which included attacks on emergency workers, shows he was “more than capable of using a weapon” and removed his liberty.
The city’s sheriff court was told Simpson had become caught up in a cycle of offending as a result of drug use.
Although he had recovered from heroin addiction, the 28-year-old said his new addiction to legal highs had “completely ruined his life”.
