A cyclist who was rushed to hospital after being ploughed into by a careless driver is claiming more than £5,000 in compensation.
Gordon Barrie, 50, from Dundee, was cycling to his work at the Riverside Inn when he was hit by a Mazda 3 hatchback outside the Bridgeview Station restaurant.
Police and paramedics attended and Mr Barrie was taken to Ninewells Hospital with head and hand injuries.
The driver, Lindsay Arnold Wilson, of Glenrothes, was later convicted of careless and inconsiderate driving.
Mr Barrie, a bar supervisor, had been cycling his yellow Carrera TDF along Riverside Drive on September 2 last year when Wilson crashed into him.
Wilson had just pulled out of the Bridgeview Station restaurant junction at about 7.25am and hit the side of Mr Barrie’s bike.
Normally, Mr Barrie would have been on the cycle path, but work was being carried out on it at the time and he had to use the road instead.
He suffered bruising to his head and a soft tissue injury to his right hand, which is still giving him discomfort.
His painful hand, loss of earnings from time taken off after the crash and the damage sustained to his bike form the basis of his claim.
The case called for the first time at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.
At the time of the crash, police closed the busy road both ways to allow for an investigation, which sparked traffic chaos in the area.
Wilson later appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving.
He was fined £300 and received six penalty points on his driving licence on January 9.
A spokesman for solicitors Digby Brown, who are acting for Mr Barrie, said: “Increasing numbers of people in and around Dundee are cycling as part of their daily commutes.
“Incidents like this one are a reminder of how important it is for every road user to act responsibly and share our roads safely.”
