Community asked for views on plans for 300 homes in Monifieth

Monifieth Community Council is appealing for views on a housing application that could massively expand the town.

The council has asked local people to feed into an informal survey in order to gauge opinion on a development from Taylor Wimpey which could see around 300 new homes built.

Posting on the Our Monifieth Facebook page, community council member Rob Crossland said: “Taylor Wimpey have applied for planning permission to build 270-plus homes in the land between Fotheringham Drive, the A92 and Victoria Street.

“The community council would welcome views from the people of Monifieth on this proposal, bearing in mind that it would add 1,000 to 1,500 extra people to our population, 250-plus of whom will be of school age.”

Mr Crossland said views were being gathered online as there was not enough time to carry out a more formal consultation.

Earlier this month The Courier revealed the application to Angus Council for permission in principle for up to 380 homes.

Andrew Roberts of Taylor Wimpey has promised the project will include plenty of green space, a large park providing improved connections to Ethiebeaton and a wider path along Victoria Street to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.
