The latest evening of ‘chit chat’ showcasing Dundee’s cultural and creative talent is set for its biggest event yet.
More than 300 people are expected to attend the seventh Pecha Kucha night where presenters talk through 20 images for 20 seconds each in the Bonar Hall on November 21.
The latest Pecha Kucha ‘chit chat’ in Japanese will be held the day after Dundee finds out if its bid to be the UK City of Culture in 2017 has succeeded, or failed.
The event is organised and hosted by Creative Dundee.
Co-director Gillian Easson said she did not know that the event date would fall so soon after the competition announcement.
She said: “We had no idea. It’s purely coincidence and I’m so glad it’s worked out like that. It would have been a bit annoying having it before the announcement.
“The way we see it is that we are going to have a party and celebration either way.
“Obviously we would be totally delighted, over the moon and probably stuck to the ceiling, if we get it. But if we don’t we’ll just celebrate the fact that we are pretty much a city of culture anyway.
“It’s a really nice public platform to speak about the bid and what it involves.”
Pecha Kucha is aimed at letting creative people talk and originally started in Tokyo in 2003.
Speakers at the next event include Stewart Murdoch, the man spearheading Dundee’s City of Culture bid, alternative rock group Sonny Carntyne, artist Tom Carlile and Sandy Thomson, artistic director of Poorboy Theatre Company.
The first Dundee Pecha Kucha in November 2011 drew around 50 people and has gone from strength to strength in the last two years.
Gillian said: “We always have a big waiting list, so we wanted to find a bigger venue. Hopefully more people can come along.”
Pecha Kucha takes place in the Bonar Hall on November 21.
