Dundee City Council education convener says centre closures are not about the money

Dundee’s education convener has insisted that the restructuring of the city’s off-site education service is not a savings exercise but did admit the money recouped was a “bonus”.
Dundee City Council plans to merge the three current off-site education centres the Castlepark Centre, Connect 5, and Balerno into one site at the Rockwell Primary School building in Lawton Road.
The move will save the cash-strapped council around £510,000.
Councillor Stewart Hunter said: “I’m not going to lie and say there isn’t a financial benefit to this, but it is more of an added bonus.
“If we didn’t need to make savings, would we still consider this? The answer to that is yes.”
