It will be all eyes and ears on Dens Park this afternoon as Dundee fans (even those just for the day) hope the Dark Blues get the victory they need to win the league and promotion to the Scottish Premiership.
Tom Simpson, formerly of Snow Patrol, has been a Dundee FC fan all his life.
Despite that, he probably won’t be at the match as he says he is too nervous to go and will be watching the scores on TV through his fingers.
“Obviously I wish them all the best. I think it will be 3-0 to Dundee. They’re going to blast their way up this time because we can’t afford any mistakes.
“I wasn’t going to go because I didn’t want to jinx it, but now I’m totally thinking I want to be there, but it’s too late because it’s sold out.
“The last time I saw that amount of people at Dens Park I was just a kid. Sometimes I just can’t go because I’m so nervous and this is one of these times.
“Hopefully it all goes well and we’ll all be celebrating tomorrow night.”
Dundee University rector and famous actor Brian Cox said last night: “Wishing Dundee FC all success in today’s championship bid.
“For the city the tide is turning. The rise of Dundee FC is a huge crest in that wave.”
There’s no way though that fellow Dundee FC fan, actor Sam Robertson, is missing the match.
Sam has travelled up from London to meet up with his dad Dave and brother Joel for the game, and he’s brought his retro DFC top with him.
Former Big Brother contestant and Coronation Street star Sam, 28, says he’s confident but not overly so.
“I’m really excited about it, I wouldn’t miss it for the world and I’m obviously hoping it’s going to be a great result and a great day.
“To win promotion at the first attempt is great. It’s been a really nerve-racking season so far and every time we think we’ve done it, it all goes upside down.
“But we can’t allow that to happen tomorrow and I think 11,000 Dundee fans will just have to carry the boys over the line.
“Hopefully a good performance too. All the best to the boys.”
Steven Morrison, drummer with The View, is a fervent Dundee United fan but, despite that, he says he’s hoping for a Dundee win.
“I just want Dundee to come up because it’s great having both teams in the premier league. The derbies are the best and when you see that Dens is sold out it just shows that Dundee should be in the top league.
Courier columnist Jim Crumley, a lifelong Dundee fan whose grandfather played in goal for the Dark Blues, said: “I’m really disappointed I won’t be there because I can’t get a ticket. I go to as many of the home games as I can and I think the team has grown through the season. They just need a win, so come on Dundee.”
Professor Dario Alessi, of Dundee University’s college of life sciences, is making a dash back from Canada to make it in time for the game.
He said: “My son Gonzalo, 15, my four-year-old daughter Amelie and I are very excited about the game. I have even bought a ticket for my wife Lindsay to attend her first game.
“We have been supporting Dundee for 11 years now and this is by far the biggest game we have attended.
“I am in Canada and rushing back overnight to be back in time for kick-off.”
