The Dundee west end park-and-ride scheme has been scrapped.
Monday night’s debate into the council’s own contentious proposal came to an astonishing conclusion when development management convener David Bowes found himself the only elected member in favour of it.
No one was prepared to second him in backing the recommendation of city development director Mike Galloway, meaning the plan automatically fell without going to a vote.
The £3.7 million, 400-parking space facility on land to the west of Wright Avenue, next to Riverside Nature Park, had been promoted as a project to help cut congestion and improve air quality by offering a car-free integrated network of bus transport links to key locations.
However, there had been concerns that there was little appetite for such a service.
Other park-and-ride sites are proposed for the Fife side of the Tay Road Bridge and the eastern and northern outskirts of Dundee.
