The festive season got under way at Dundee’s West End on Wednesday night, with the annual Christmas lights switch on.
Young and old alike braved the cold to attend the event marking the start of the West End Christmas Fortnight.
The extravaganza kicked off with a special concert by primary and secondary school pupils at Dundee West Church, hosted by the Rev Andrew Greaves.
Mains of Fintry Pipe Band then led everyone from the church to Seabraes for the switching on of the lights.
Scottish Singer Sheena Wellington had the honour of turning on the lights, assisted by Santa and his sleigh.
Sheena and the Wighton Singers also performed on the night, to the delight of music fans.
A spectacular fireworks display rounded off the evening, which was hailed a success by West End Councillor Fraser Macpherson.
He said: “We had an excellent turnout of the community,
“It was excellent to see the support of four primary schools and Harris Academy who performed at the concert before the lights switch-on.
“We are also very grateful to Sheena and the Wighton singers who performed.
“The West End Christmas Fortnight is a great community initiative and there are lots more events to come.”
On Saturday, there will be a children’s craft event at Logie St John’s (Cross) Church Hall while Friends of the University of Dundee Botanic Gardens will host a Mystery Walk in the Dark that afternoon.
