Animal charity’s fears over bill for repair work at Dundee base
ByThe Courier Reporter
An animal charity could need as much as £100,000 for essential repairs to its base.
Staff at Cats Protection in Dundee have warned a retaining wall in Foundry Lane is at risk of collapsing and some of their 20-year-old pens cannot be rebuilt.
They are negotiating the renewal of their lease and there is also a chance they could move elsewhere, meaning they will be forced to raise cash.
Head of maintenance Bob Smith said the future disruption could raise concerns for the wellbeing of some of their cats.
He added: “Our next big thing is going to be sorting the retaining wall behind the pens.
“We will have to lose them for a time during any repairs and that is going to be catastrophic for cats in Dundee.
“We will also have to raise a fortune to replace the pens as the present ones are more than 20 years old and too rotten to rebuild.”
Local co-ordinator Irene Brown said negotiations with Dundee City Council over the lease of the building were ongoing and the charity may look for new premises.
Anyone who wishes to support the charity can call 0800 917 2287 or visit www.cats.org.uk.
