A petition has been launched to tackle Dundee’s seagull menace, which has caused increasing problems over the summer.
Gulls spreading litter, swooping at passersby and even stealing food out of children’s hands have all angered pedestrians. Now campaigners want Dundee City Council to take more action over the problem.
The city’s Labour group were out collecting signatures in the City Square and have already seen more than 100 people signing.
Councillor Richard McCready, Labour’s environment spokesman, said the problem had got worse in recent years and the local authority’s policies needed to be looked at again.
He said: “There are issues about gulls swooping on people and trying to steal food. We have been told about them stealing from the hands of children.
“The council last looked at the problem in 2006 and we are of the opinion that they should have another look at that, because I think the problem has got worse in that time.”
The council’s policy means homeowners have to pay to have seagull problems dealt with if the birds are living on the roof of their property.
