Police are hunting a Dundee dog owner after an eight-year-old girl was attacked in a vicious Rottweiler attack.
The dog is described as being black with a brown face, wearing a blue collar and having a long tail.
The girl, who comes from Douglas, was taken from her home to Ninewells Hospital following the incident.
Her wounds were dressed and she was later allowed home.
Dog walkers in Dawson Park expressed their shock at the attack.
One dog owner, who lives in adjoining Claypotts Terrace, said she has stopped taking her pet to Dawson Park.
She said: “My dog’s been bitten twice by bigger dogs in there. I’ve seen a lot of them just running about the owners couldn’t care less.”
Another dog walker said he wassaddened to hear of the attack.
He said: “I hope she’s ok. I saw a Rottweiler in the park last week off in the distance but that’s the first one I’ve seen here for months.”
Inspector Graham Young said: “A Rottweiler dog attacked an eight-year-old girl and bit her on her thigh, causing her to be treated at hospital due to the seriousness of the injury.
“There were several dog walkers in the area at the time and any person that saw the incident, or might have an awareness about who the dog belongs to, is requested to contact the police by phoning 101 or speaking to any officer.”
A spokeswoman for the ScottishAmbulance Service confirmed they attended an address in Douglas on Saturday night to treat an eight-year-old girl’s bite wound.
There have been calls for the breed to be banned in the wake of a number of attacks on children in recent years.
A 10-year-old schoolgirl was badly injured after being attacked by a pair of Rottweilers in Dundee three years ago.
The youngster required hundreds of stitches following the attack. The animals were later destroyed.
