Dundee woman Cheryl Rennie Soutar is bringing her wedding forward so her terminally-ill mother can be at her big day.
It is Michelle Shirkey’s dream to be with her daughter when she ties the knot.
Her hopes were shattered when this week she was told she had just weeks to live, after terminal lung cancer spread to her spleen.
But daughter Cheryl is rushing the big day forward to grant her mum her final wish and she has just two weeks to organise every last detail.
The 26-year-old from Fintry has been inundated with donations from as far afield as Essex.
Cheryl said: “Mum was diagnosed in August with terminal lung cancer and given three to six months to live. We got the news the day before her 47th birthday.
“But she was doing really well we were just out shopping and laughing the other day, then she was complaining of pain in her side and I took her to hospital.
“It was then we found out that the cancer had spread quickly to her spleen, and the doctor said she had a few weeks left.
“I just want to do everything for her now, and being at my wedding is her final wish.”
Mother-of-three Cheryl is by her mother’s side at Ninewells Hospital day and night, but is pulling out all the stops to get the wedding day together on December 3.
Cheryl said: “I wasn’t planning to get married for a few years, but all the stress will be worth it on the day. It will mean everything to me to have my mum there.
“We are just confirming the venue, and my wedding dress has been donated by someone from Essex. They are sending it up.
“An anonymous person also donated £500 to get my mum a new outfit for the day, and I want to thank everyone for what they’ve done.
“I still need two flower girl dresses, men’s kilts, some food and a car to get me there, but most other things are done. And it all came from me asking for ideas on the internet I’m overwhelmed.”
