Emergency services were called to the Bell Street campus at around 3.30pm, after reports of smoke in the roof space of the building. It took three fire crews from Blackness Road, Macalpine Road and the Kingsway almost an hour to extinguish the blaze. Hose reels and a carbon dioxide extinguisher were used during the operation, which saw the building evacuated and the road outside closed off. A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 3.20pm about a fire alarm that had been activated. “When we got there the crews said there was smoke in the roof space that turned out to be a faulty light fitting. “A hose reel and CO2 extinguisher were used. The university will have carried out its own procedure to evacuate the building. “Three appliances attended and the stop message came in at 4.10pm.”
