Tributes have been paid to a Dundee music teacher killed in a horrific road accident on Wednesday.
Grant Gourlay was out cycling in Angus on his Bianchi road bike when he was involved in a collision with a van.
Emergency services raced to the A926 between Maryton and Kirriemuir but Mr Gourlay died at the scene. Mr Gourlay, 48, ran Grant Gourlay’s Music School, based in Ballumbie Road, teaching keyboard and piano.
His cousin Stephen Gourlay, 49, a builder based in Burnley, Lancashire, said: “He was a marvellous cousin, well loved. He’s going to be missed.”
As well as being a keen cyclist, Mr Gourlay had also been involved with Dundee Roadrunners and amateur dramatics club Blairgowrie Players.
Graham Reid, president of the Blairgowrie Players, said: “Grant was a really great guy and very helpful. He was one of these people who would do anything for you.
“He used to work in a record shop in Dundee and I was looking for musical help for our Highland nights in Blairgowrie.
“Grant helped out from the late 1980s until the early 1990s and brought his sister along, who was a great singer.
“He played keyboard and his sister sang. I was later looking for a musical director for our annual pantomime and he came and helped us out for about five or six years.
“He would come up every Monday and Thursday from September until the pantomime ran in December. He loved his music and had all sorts of musical instruments set up in his house.
He loved playing music and liked going to see classical music in places like Prague and Vienna.
“Grant also enjoyed popular music, but cycling and running were his great passion.
“My wife and I got to know him really well. He was just great. It’s a real shock.”
Graham’s wife Ruth, treasurer of the group, added: “He was musical director for us quite a few times for productions and pantomimes. He was a great guy to work with, really super. It’s very sad.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said inquiries into the accident were continuing.
