A call centre worker who was unfairly dismissed by a Dundee-based insurance company has been awarded almost £9,000 by a tribunal.
Anthony MacCuish was unfairly sacked by Shield Insurance Consultants of Law House, Strathmartine Road, in February this year.
The company had conceded that he was unfairly dismissed. However, Mr MacCuish has since failed to secure permanent employment and the award is in recognition of his loss of potential earnings during the six months since his dismissal.
The company disputed his claim. It said he had secured a temporary job on a campsite but, as he lost that job after three weeks, Shield could not be held responsible for his loss of earnings after that.
The tribunal heard that Mr MacCuish had checked the Job Centre website daily, the Direct Government website and two other online recruitment agency websites. He also took his CV to businesses.
In April he moved back to his family home in Wester Ross, and took a job on the Applecross campsite, which ended after three weeks.
Due to his financial difficulties, he could not return to Dundee.
