Former Dundee Unison chief Rory Malone has been expelled from the union for alleged “financial irregularities”. The branch secretary of nearly a decade was thrown out following an internal investigation into his time with the organisation. It is understood Mr Malone failed to appear to answer to the allegations following an investigation involving members’ funds. Unison spokeswoman Mary Maguire said: “I can confirm that Rory Malone has been expelled from Unison for financial irregularities. “The process has now ended.” Mr Malone, who was secretary at the Dundee branch for nine years and retired in 2012, was unavailable for comment. A council spokesman said: “We don’t talk about individual personnel matters.” Unison branch chairman Jim McFarlane said the branch did not wish to comment. However, a Unison source said: “Mr Malone was meant to be at a meeting. He was called in but never turned up. He’s been expelled from Unison.” The Crown Office and Police Scotland had no records of any criminal investigations involving Mr Malone.
