A 35-year-old woman remains in a critical condition following a motorbike accident near Auchterhouse.
The woman suffered head, pelvic and lower limb injuries after she collided with a silver Ford Focus south of the village on Thursday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “We got the call at 16.10… Initially it was thought to be a male but it has now been confirmed as a female…
“We treated her at the scene before the crew took her to Ninewells Hospital to receive treatment.”
Eyewitnesses reported seeing an ambulance leaving under police escort.
Police closed a long stretch of the Newtyle road leading north from Birkhill. The road remained closed for investigations until shortly before 9pm.
A spokesman said: “Police officers involved in the investigation are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident and can be contacted by telephoning 101.”
Two pensioners were in the car a 66-year-old male driver and a 74-year-old male passenger. They escaped injury.
