Dundee fake ‘tache guy steals show at leaders debate

A Dundee taxi driver stole the show at the Scottish leaders’ debate after his fake moustache became the talk of the Internet.
Danny McAfee, 54, started trending on Twitter after sneaking the ’tache into the studio, with commenters including Jeremy Vine and singer Amy Macdonald speculating on his identity.
Danny told The Courier: “I’m not going to realize how big it’s all become until tomorrow, it’s unreal.
“I decided to wear it as soon as I was going to be on the telly in a live audience where they can’t do anything about it.
“Security did tell me to get rid of it when they went to the second advert break. They said to get rid of it or I’d get bunged out.
“I bought the hat to wear, but the moustache was just a joke but the hat and moustache together was a classic comedy face.”
Danny became aware of his new-found fame when audience chatter started to reach him.
He said: “The people in the front said ‘Jeremy Vine is talking about you, and Frankie Boyle is tweeting about you’.
“I could see Nicola Sturgeon and Willie Rennie looking at me discussing the fact they thought I had a fake moustache.
“Politics is boring,” he said.
“You need a bit of fun in there.”
