Plans to demolish around 200 old lock-up sites in Dundee

Almost 200 lock-up and garage sites across Dundee could be demolished following an investigation by housing chiefs.
A full 30% of the 898 council-owned sites do not cover their costs and many are unpopular because of their location, condition, size and security concerns.
The council believes there is little point in continuing to maintain them when the money could be put to better use.
The sites themselves will be put to alternative uses.
Councillors are expected to bring the lives of many of the facilities to an end at a meeting of the housing committee on Monday.
Committee convener John Alexander said: “There are locations which are fully occupied, fit for purpose and need no action, others are popular but empty units need significant repair work, while others may benefit from a wider marketing exercise to ensure residents understand the opportunities in their area.
“Other blocks are simply unsustainable because of high vacancy rates, lack of demand, vandalism, disrepair and security issues.”
