Dundee City Council shake-up sparks job loss fears

A major shake-up of council services could lead to widespread redundancies in the local authority, it has been claimed.

Union bosses are holding crisis talks with council chiefs amid fears of a “fallout” from the merging of local government departments.

Labour leader Kevin Keenan has warned that high-level cuts could “permeate through the council”, leading to a loss of frontline jobs.

The Strathmartine councillor said he also feared council services would suffer under the changes.

Dundee City Council recently announced plans to save £400,000 by cutting a number of high-level positions and merging departments.
