Church hopes to overcome opposition to counselling centre plans

A Dundee church has appealed to the Scottish Government after plans to open a counselling centre were defeated.
The Point Church, run by Dave and Abby Aitken, had submitted plans in July last year to convert a former print works into a ‘community hub’ at Lintrathen Street.
Among other things, the centre was intended to offer a support service to people with drug and alcohol addiction.
During the planning stages, 48 letters of objection were received from people in the area.
Clara McDonald, 65, is one of the people who had serious concerns about the plans. She is working on an objection to submit to Scottish Government planners.
She said: “There has been an increased build-up of drug users in the area over the last few years and a centre like this is only going to make things worse.”
She added: “This is a quiet area and we don’t want that disturbed.”
The church has now lodged an appeal with the Scottish Government’s Directorate of Planning and Environmental Appeals.
