Elizabeth Cornwell’s family travelled south to be at her hospital bedside after the tragedy in the Lancashire resort on Thursday. Initially her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening but her condition deteriorated and she died on Monday. Mrs Cornwell had been visiting relatives in Blackpool when she was hit by a Vauxhall Corsa while crossing Waterloo Road. She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where days later she died. Sergeant Alan Baron of Lancashire’s Road Policing Unit said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding this collision is now under way. “If anybody witnessed it and they haven’t already spoken to police then I would urge them to contact us.” Anybody with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
