A £25 million package of major events was unveiled by the team behind Dundee’s UK City of Culture 2017 bid, The Courier can reveal.
Among the plans if Dundee’s bid is successful is a festival of football featuring AC Milan and AS Roma and a spectacular light installation spanning the Tay Bridge.
Dundee’s six-strong bid team made their final presentation to judges in current UK City of Culture Derry-Londonderry on Thursday and now face a nervous five-day wait for the announcement of the winner.
Highlights of the previously closely-guarded 132-page Dundee bid document include the revelation that a win would see Scotland’s biggest arts space created at DC Thomson’s former print works in West Ward.Photo gallery: Dundee bids to be UK City of Culture 2017The bid team faced a “robust and demanding” 100-minute grilling by the nine judges following their final presentation.
Dundee bid team leader Stewart Murdoch said: “The waiting begins. It would be nice to know the result today but we have to tough it out until Wednesday morning.
“I don’t think we could have done any more. The city’s commitment to this was really clear.”
Dundee faces competition from Hull, Leicester and Swansea Bay, with the winner set to be announced at 7.45am on Wednesday.
