Deja Vu police attack was reminiscent of man’s past offences

A Dundee man with a history of violent attacks on police officers has been jailed after suffering a bout of deja vu outside a city nightclub.
Michael Etchells, 22, was returned to Perth Prison for 34 months when he admitted relapsing into his old ways by assaulting officers on February 8.
The court heard Etchells had been refused entry back into the Deja Vu nightclub and started shouting at staff in the street before police moved him on.
However, 20 minutes later he returned and was arrested for breach of the peace, lashing out as officers attempted to handcuff him.
Etchells was jailed for 34 months, 16 of which were the unexpired portion of a previous sentence.
He was sentenced to 12 months for the Deja Vu assault, four months after a previous community payback order was revoked and a further two months for a breach of the peace.
