Bowbridge Bar refused permission to open early to shelter football fans

Dundee’s licensing committee has rejected an application by the Bowbridge Bar to open before its core hours.
Licence holder Stephen Tosh wanted permission to open the premises so that members of the pub’s Dundee FC supporters’ club would be able to enter the premises while waiting for coaches to take them to away games.
Pubs are granted special licences to open early on days of major matches, such as semi-finals or finals.
Despite assurances no alcohol would be sold during this time, the committee rejected the application.
Chairman David Bowes said he feared it would set a precedent for other pubs in the Hilltown and Strathmartine Road areas.
