A blunder saw pupils at a Dundee school forced to sit a prelim twice in the same week.
Youngsters at St John’s RC High School had to repeat their higher physics prelim exam after it emerged there were errors and typing mistakes in the original paper.
It also asked questions on areas of the subject the pupils hadn’t been taught.
City councillor Lesley Brennan said her twin sons, Rory and Bailey, 16, were among those affected and said she believed the stress the error caused them and their classmates was “unacceptable”.
She said: “The boys came home last Monday having sat their higher physics prelim.
“They were stressed and upset because they felt they hadn’t done at all well in the exam. Both boys need to do well in physics because of the subjects they want to study at university and were really concerned about how the prelim had gone.
“They told me that they hadn’t been taught certain subjects that there were questions on in the paper and also said there were glaring errors and typing mistakes.”
A physics teacher had been concerned enough about the paper to address the matter, said Ms Brennan.
She added: “While they were glad to have the opportunity to sit a different paper, this has all added a huge amount of stress for pupils at what is a very stressful time.
“The paper was bought in by the school and obviously there were major problems with it.
Dundee City Council confirmed there had been an issue with a physics prelim for S5/S6 pupils, which the school had addressed by rearranging the exam.
