Musician’s friends want to see drum kit thrilling audiences once again

A top-quality drum kit belonging to a Dundee musician who died in January is to be bequeathed to an aspiring young drummer.
John Lunan, who spent more than four decades behind drum kits playing in a variety of bands in the city, passed away at the age of 66.
His dying wish was for his beloved Mapex kit to be given to a deserving young person who wants to learn the drums.
John’s friend, fellow Dundee musician Steve McDonald, said: “John’s kit is just sitting there untouched.
“It was stored in a friend’s lock-up for the past year and he told him that he wanted it to be given to a young drummer who maybe can’t afford a good kit.
“So the plan is to identify a deserving young drummer.
“We’re putting some feelers out among our fellow musicians and asking the local rehearsal studios if they know of anybody suitable.
“We’re holding a memorial gig for John so maybe it can be presented to its new owner then.”
The memorial gig, at the Dundee Social Club in Thistle Street on Sunday April 6, will feature a host of John’s musician friends in bands like Bedrock, Tivvy and Tripper.
