Tourism in Dundee has “rocketed” over the past year according to research published by a national holiday website.
Data gathered by Holidaylettings.co.uk shows that Dundee has enjoyed a 247% rise in holiday rentals since September 2014.
The city had the second largest increase in property rentals across the country, with the Orkney Islands claiming top spot with 354% growth.
Perth and Kinross and Fife also made it into the top 20 regions of the country with the largest increase, with Perth and Kinross enjoying a climb of 67% in the past year and Fife seeing a rise of 58%.
Insiders put the somewhat remarkable figures down to an increase in publicity for the country during last year’s independence referendum campaign.
Jack Johnson from holidaylettings.co.uk said: “Dundee has experienced the second biggest increase in the whole of Scotland, so the city is definitely doing something right to attract tourists.
“The figures speak for themselves. Scotland is clearly on a crest of a wave after the additional interest the country received during the referendum.
“No doubt many of the new visitors have been tourists from south of the border, and beyond.”
Jim Clarkson, VisitScotland regional partnerships director, said: “We are delighted to hear that rental property bookings across Scotland are doing so well, particularly in Dundee, where visitors are drawn to its lively cosmopolitan centre, excellent attractions and diverse range of places to eat.
“Self-catering continues to be an attractive form of holiday accommodation for visitors.”
