A man who died after his car collided with a lorry on the A90 south of Brechin has been named as 65-year-old Witold Solski from Dundee.
Mr Solski was cut free from the wreckage of his Skoda by firefighters but was sadly pronounced dead at the roadside a short time later.
The motorist was driving between Forfar and Brechin when the collision took place near to the Careston junction on Wednesday evening.
His 30-year-old female passenger and the lorry driver were not hurt.
The accident happened at around 6.20pm and forced the closure of the northbound carriageway until 1am while emergency services worked at the scene.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Enquiries into the full set of circumstances of the incident are on-going and Tayside Division would appeal for anyone who may have information that could assist officers with their enquiries to contact Police Scotland on 101.
“As with all sudden deaths a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
