Game on for Dundee’s digital sector after cash boost
ByMark Mackay
Millions of pounds have been awarded to Dundee to enable the city to continue its leading role in the UK’s highly lucrative computer games industry.
Video games generate more than £4.5 million a day for the economy and the Government is determined to build on that success.
In a move that reinforces Dundee’s reputation as the home of the sector, ministers hope to tap into the expertise that has propagated blockbusters such as Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto and Moshi Monsters.
Over the next four years, the city’s brightest minds will become mentors to the UK industry.
They will use a £4m pot to bankroll bright new companies, create jobs and develop the “blockbusters of tomorrow”.
