Crews smash way into Lyon Street flat amid concern for resident

Police and fire units smashed their way into a Dundee flat after worries were raised over the welfare of a resident.
Two police cars and a fire engine were involved in Tuesday’s operation at Lyon Street, which began after concerned neighbours reported strong smells from the property.
Tayside Police later confirmed the occupant had been found safe and well by officers.
Officers sealed off the street and attempted to gain entry but found the front door inaccessible.
Using a ladder, firemen then broke through a back window and gained entry to the flat, which was unoccupied at the time.
Officers contacted social workers and the occupant’s family.
Nathan Thomson, a local resident, witnessed the operation: “I was just outside the building when I saw two police cars in the street. The fire engine came quickly afterwards.
“They put tape all the way across the street and stopped cars from coming down. I assumed it was a fire at first. They had to smash the window at the back to get in.”
