Two companies are pressing ahead in their attempts to sell food and clothes in Dundee retail parks.
Next wants to sell clothes at its Kingsway West store as part of Scotland’s first Next Home & Garden outlet, while at Kingsway East, B&Q’s landlords want more space to sell food, clothing and toys in a bid to attract a new tenant if the DIY firm leaves.
Both the planning applications were refused by the city council and the companies have asked the Scottish Government’s planning appeals directorate to overturn the decisions.
Next’s agents, Ravenside Investments, claimed “maintaining the status quo is not a viable option” and said allowing the £4.4 million development would create 85 jobs, including apprenticeships.
The council has been asked to submit its written response before this case is decided.
Meanwhile, Threadneedle Investments claims the council is “unreasonably prejudicing” the chance of B&M Homestore taking over the B&Q unit.
The council has argued this appeal was lodged prematurely and Asda, which operates the flagship store at Kingsway East, has also made an objection.
