Gallery: Dundee’s Carolina Port power plants through the years
ByThe Courier Reporter
As proposals for a biomass plant approach the next stage in the development process, we look back through the archives to show it wouldn’t be the first power-generating plant at Dundee harbour. The Carolina Port power stations generated Dundee’s energy for much of the last century. First there was a coal-fired power station from 1908 and it was replaced by an oil-fired unit built in the mid-1960s. The rising cost of oil led to its closure in 1983 and it was later demolished.
The Courier is hosting a public debate on the biomass proposals on May 1. To register for tickets visit www.thecourier.co.uk/1.85112.
