A Dundee family have pledged to raise a £10,000 “legacy” in memory of their 13-year-old daughter.
Ruth Parkinson and Craig Moss launched the charity drive in tribute to Sophie Parkinson, who was found dead at her home in Liff.
The teenager had received support from ChildLine and mother Ruth and stepdad Craig plan to send all donations to the charity.
Their efforts began on Thursday and over £2,300 has already been raised.
Craig, 38, said the family are set on meeting the ambitious £10,000 total.
“The way we see it, it’s a legacy for Sophie,” he said. “We see this as just the beginning. There’s a number of things we’re looking at.
“It does focus the mind, looking at something positive. And the school are looking at planting a tree or running an event.”
Craig added: “People associate ChildLine with bullying I have done in the past.
“But actually kids have all sorts of things going on.
“ChildLine is just a friendly ear for people, an outlet for kids.
“While they weren’t able to save Sophie, we know there’s plenty of kids that they have.
“We’ve had some very personal messages of condolence where people have said that.”
On Saturday the couple updated the site in response to the donations they have received so far.
Their post said: “We just wanted to check in to say we’re absolutely astonished at the generosity of you all so far in contributing to this fund in Sophie’s memory.
“Some of you knew Sophie very well, some of you only knew her a little bit, and some of you didn’t even know her at all but felt in some way inspired by her story.
“Whichever of these people you are, we just wanted to say a heartfelt thanks for your kindness.
“The next few days are going to be extremely difficult for us with Sophie’s funeral however, please don’t take any silence on our part as disinterest, we are just so honoured at your efforts in Sophie’s memory.”
