The nine-year-old boy who died after being struck by a car on the A90 by Longforgan on Friday night was out playing with his new skateboard.
Kairon McKay died after being involved in a collision with a blue Ford C Max around 9.20pm.
Heartbroken mum Laura McKay posted on Facebook on Saturday that Kairon was supposed to have been playing with friends in Inchture and “nowhere near Longforgan”.
Hours before the tragic accident, she had updated her profile picture with a picture of Kairon and his new skateboard.
Her profile described Kairon as “her gift from above”.
After the accident she posted: “He was meant to be out playing on skateboards in Inchture, nowhere near Longforgan.
“I feel completely responsible … No words can hurt any deeper than I feel right now.
“I have no blame on anyone, not the kids he was with or the driver. It’s just an awful accident and now I’m paying for it by not having my wee boy beside me for the rest of my life.”
Laura later posted: “I’m seriously grateful for every single person who’s commented or messaged me even from the people I don’t talk to anymore for what ever reasons.
“I’ve not quite got my head around this and accepting it’s not something I’m ready to do so for now I’m going to go back to laying in silence with my thoughts of my precious boy.”
Friend Lisa Emily Bott was one of many who left messages of support, saying: “If I could take any of your pain away I would. Just know I’m thinking of you all the time Laura.”
Carrie Stephen says her son was with Kairon at the time of the accident.
She posted on the Facebook page of Police Scotland’s Tayside Division: “We are all trying to come to terms with the loss of Kairon.
“My son and his friend were with him at the time of this heartbreaking tragedy.Anyone who seen anything please let the police know we need answers to what happened.”
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the nine-year-old boy was Kairon McKay from the Perth area.”
The westbound lanes of the A90 were closed until Saturday morning as police continued to investigate the tragedy.
Anyone who witnessed the accident or who has any information is asked to phone police on 101.
