Children as young as 10 are being sought by police after a “massive” blaze ripped through a new-build house at a Dundee development.
An investigation has been launched after the incident on Home Scotland’s site between Mull Terrace and Harris Terrace in Mill o’ Mains.
Fire crews were called to the area shortly before 8pm on Thursday to tackle a fire at a semi-detached, two-storey property.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed today: “We are making inquiries into a fire at a property within a building site in Harris Terrace, Dundee, that happened at about 7.55pm.
“Anyone with information that could assist officers with their inquiries into the incident, in particular anyone who may have seen three boys aged between 10 and 15-years-old acting suspiciously in the area, should contact Police Scotland on 101.”
Two appliances from Kingsway Fire station were called to the site to tackle the outbreak.
Resident Aileen Thomson, 77, who lives next to the development, said: “A girl came to my door to tell me about it and the flames were belching out. It was billowing out of all four windows.
“I think it was deliberate as there were kids hanging around the site the night before. It is terrible really as the men have been working so hard on the houses and all their work has been ruined.”
Stuart Dixon from Home Scotland said: “We’d like to thank the firefighters who responded so quickly. This is the first incident of fire damage we’ve had and we’ll work with our contractor to examine security.”
