Construction of the new £31 million Harris Academy is due to begin in the new year.
The project board overseeing the work has heard demolition of the old building on Perth Road is on schedule.
Board member and West End councillor Richard McCready said: “The council is pretty confident that once the demolition is finished, construction on the new school will begin.
“The demolition should be finished by the end of the year and rebuilding will start early next year.”
Mr McCready said he would be keeping a close eye on the project to make sure it remained on track.
He added pupils and staff were settling in well at their temporary home at the former Rockwell Academy site, despite some issues with transport.
“We have set up a sub-committee to deal with the transport issue.
“We expect that as the weather gets worse there will be more demand from students needing to get to school.
“That is something we will be focusing on over the next few months.”
The new Harris Academy will be a four-storey, 15,000 sq m building with room for 1,200 pupils. It is expected to open in 2016.
