A Dundee man who killed his mother with acid has died.
Douglas Murray McIntyre, 47, doused his mother with concentrated sulphuric acid in an attack at her home in Albert Street in September 1993.
Elaine McIntyre died a day later after being left with burns covering 70% of her body.
Douglas McIntyre, known locally as Murray, was sentenced to 20 years at the High Court in Perth after the charges were reduced from murder to culpable homicide. His sentence was later reduced on appeal.
McIntyre was 27 when he committed the crime which led to his mother’s death.
A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We attended an address in Burnside Court, Dundee, just after 1am on August 20.
“One ambulance crew attended the scene but paramedics did not transport anyone to hospital.”
A police spokeswoman said: “Tayside Division attended at Burnside Court, Dundee, at 1.20am following the sudden death of a 47-year-old man.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and as with all sudden deaths a report was sent to the procurator fiscal.”
Since being released from prison, McIntyre was involved in a catalogue of minor crimes.
He last appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court in April, accused of assaulting a man and repeatedly spitting on him in the knowledge he was infected with Hepatitis C.
At the time, he made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination, with McIntyre remanded in custody.
It is believed he was on bail when he died, after a successful appeal at the High Court in Edinburgh.
A spokesman for the Crown Office confirmed that his live cases were now closed due to his death.
McIntyre’s funeral was held on Monday at Dundee Crematorium. He leaves behind his partner Lizzie.
It took a jury of six women and nine men just over two hours to find McIntyre guilty of the culpable homicide of his mother, who was 53 years old at the time of the attack.
In addition to the acid attack, McIntyre was charged with assaulting his mother’s boyfriend, Jack Findlay, by punching and kicking him, as well as biting him on the ear.
