A new Dundee band’s latest single has been used by Manchester City Football Club in an unlikely internet match-up.

Unsigned five-piece Robot Doctors sent single Three Days Dead to the club and were delighted when it was selected as the backing track for the club’s December goal of the month video.

Frontman Darren Kelly said when they noticed a Twitter message from the football club calling on unsigned bands to submit a song they decided to go for it.

They did not have high hopes of it being used so were pleasantly surprised when just two days later the club tweeted back to thank them for the track.

Darren said: “We decided to go for it just for a laugh and see what happened. They didn’t email us or anything to say they were going to use it until they posted on Twitter.

“It was fantastic but very surreal when I saw the video on Manchester City’s website. We’re still a new band trying to build up a reputation in Dundee before we go further afield but we welcome any opportunity to get our music out there.”

He said it would be great to have some new fans from Manchester coming to their gigs because of the video, and the band have already got more followers on Facebook and Twitter as a result of the promotion.

Darren said: “These are people who would never have heard of us if not for this. We even had someone like us on Facebook who is a Manchester City fan from Mexico.”

The band, who performed their first gig in March last year, have released one three-track demo and the Three Days Dead single, plus its B-side, I Like You.

Since then they have been playing gigs around Dundee and are currently working on a full-length album.

The band’s next gig will be at the Kage nightclub local band night on February 15.
